Tips on how what we do here at The Edge
5 steps we use to increase your child's IQ
How To Improve Your Child’s IQ
Here are everyday activities that parents and teachers can do and say to their kids to quicken their intelligence.
These are some steps we at The Edge Bilingual Nursery and Primary School take to stir up and greatly improve the intelligence of kids. As you see, it does not only depend on us. We suggest that parents join us to make exceptional kids.
1. Read with your kids to improve verbal and linguistic intelligence
Reading makes your kid smarter. Reading is a complex activity for the brain when it is done, it helps the brain unlock cognitive abilities in your child.
Reading improves your child's vocabulary, general knowledge, verbal fluency as well as spelling. All these boost your child's intelligence.
Research suggests that if your kid starts reading early, there is a high probability that they will read more in the future.
2. Let kids play with blocks to improve spatial intelligence.
Spatial intelligence is the ability to visualize, imagine pictures in the mind.
Puzzles, blocks, and memory games, as well as crafts, help children develop spatial intelligence. Allowing kids to play with them will increase their intelligence.
Studies have shown that developing spatial skills will lead them to most likely do the sciences later in life. It prepares and opens them up to studies in math, technology, and engineering.
3. Help them do math by doing practical exercises to improve fluid intelligence.
Fluid intelligence is reasoning, thinking abstractly, and identifying patterns in problem-solving.
Use counters, shapes, pictures, and other aids to help them solve math problems.
Show kids the difference between a square and a rectangle by showing square and rectangle objects. Teach them to count by placing 3 objects and adding 2 other objects to them. These are examples of practical exercises.
Such practical exercises in problem-solving stir their brains to develop a love for the sciences too.
4. Believe in them.
Telling a child that they are smart and intelligent boosts their overall performance, studies have shown.
When your child shows any success or positive results in the right activity, go ahead and tell them that they are exceptional.
Even when they do not get it right at first, tell them that you believe in them, explain it again better with proper examples and give them another chance. Try it again and again until when they finally get it, celebrate it as if they did it without help.
Boosting a child's confidence helps improve their intelligence.
5. Praise their efforts to develop a growth mindset.
Praise your child for the process and not only for the result.
When your child keeps at something for a while and finally succeeds in doing it, praise them and specifically tell them that you appreciate their commitment until they got the result.
Learn to identify efforts shown by the child and tell them each time. This will teach them grit and a growth mindset.
Research has shown that children who are praised for the process remain longer to solve problems and those that are only praised for the result or not praised at all tend to give up earlier.
These are some of the steps we take to deliver exceptional results here at The Edge.
Real learning is active. Real learning is emotional.
As a parent, you have a huge influence on your child’s learning.

How we manage naughty kids
Why are kids naughty and how we handle them.
Here are some reasons for naughty behaviours in children and how we can deal with them.
1. Developing Brains
A child will not listen to you or be outrightly stubborn when their brain is still developing. They do not yet know the new limits. They need to test to see how far they are permitted to reach.
We are patient with kids and guide them as their brians develop. This is the perfect time to mould good and responsible adults.
2. Physical Effects
Hunger, thirst, sleep deprivation, or sickness make anybody, even adults, irritable. So when a child is stubborn, we check if they are in any of the above conditions.
3. Need for Independence
As parents, you may want your child to be independent, but the child does not know how, when, and where. The child may insist on doing what they think even when you try to call them to order.
Here, we patiently show them what they need to do and how to do them.
4. Overwhelming Emotions
A child's brain is still new to powerful emotions like fear, sadness, or frustration. When they feel these, they may shout, yell, cry or be difficult. This is how they know how to express these feelings.
It is left for parents and teachers to guide them and be gentle. We too get angry so we have to teach them how to cope with these feelings.
5. The Need to Burn Off Their Energy
When a child is hyperactive and fidgeting, it is because they have so much energy they need to burn off. When you need them to do something or sleep and they are still active, know that until they burn that energy, they will not settle.
This is not the time to beat or make them cry. Although crying will burn the energy and make them settle, we can't blame and hurt them for the energy.
We give them some playful activity to do to burn the energy and it will solve the problem.
6. Inconsistency
When a child has no rules or new rules keep popping up every day, they get frustrated. They tend to rebel and disobey.
We consistent with our rules set so that they know quite well what is expected of them.
7. Your Mood
Human beings generally are affected by the moods of people around them. So, if you display negative or angry behaviour towards your child, he may mirror the same behaviour. If you are calm and patient around them, he will display the same around you.
We are an example to the kids in all manner of action and emotion.
8. Different Characteristics
We all differ. We have different qualities, strengths, and weaknesses. Some people are motivated and focused while others are compassionate.
Our kids are the same and they will act according to their character. It is good we identify these characteristics, strengths, and weaknesses when dealing with their naughty behaviour.
