The 5 Stages of Education in Cameroon compared

Education is one of those subjects that can be quite confusing. You have to think about it, but it’s also a subject that has a lot of different definitions. In order to understand education better, let’s first discuss what we mean by the term.

What is education

Education is defined as the process of learning, especially the study of subjects that will lead to an occupation or profession. It is a formal system of teaching and learning, usually organized in accordance with a curriculum. Education can also refer to the process of learning how to read, write, and perform basic math. This is where you learn the basics of reading, writing, and arithmetic.

So basically, education is learning. Now, there are a few things that you need to consider when you’re talking about education. First, you need to know that education is not something that happens all at once. There are many stages of education, and each stage is different from the others. The stages of education are kindergarten, elementary school, junior high school, and high school. Each of these stages has its own specific purpose.

Stage 1. Kindergarten

Kindergarten is for children who are just learning how to walk, talk, and feed themselves. It is also referred to as daycare and nursery school in Cameroon. Daycare is usually a year long while nursery school takes two years. This is the time when they are introduced to their parents and other family members. Kindergarten is a very important stage of education because it helps kids learn how to interact with others, socialize, and develop some basic skills.

Stage 2: Elementary school

Elementary school is the next stage of education. In Cameroon, it is referred to as primary school and runs from class one to six. This is the stage where students begin to learn how to read, write, do basic math, and develop social skills. In this stage, students will be introduced to their teachers, and they will begin to make friends.

Stage 3: Junior high

Junior high school is the next stage of schooling. In Cameroon, it is referred to as secondary school which runs from form one to form 5 and ends with a GCE O/Level certificate examination. Junior high school is the stage where students begin their high school careers. In this stage, students continue to learn how to read, do basic math, and practice writing. They also start to make more friends, and they begin to develop interests.

Stage 4: High School

High school is the next stage of education. In Cameroon, it is the lower sixth and upper sixth forms and ends with a GCE A/Level certificate examination. High school is the stage where students get their diplomas, and they start thinking about what they want to do with their lives. In high school, students continue to develop interests, and they also begin to get involved in extracurricular activities.

Stage 5: College

College is where the student starts specialisation for professionalisation. In Cameroon, it is referred to as University. The student takes a particular subject and starts learning detailly about it. College has different stages: undergraduate, and post-graduate. Undergraduate receives students from the universities and lasts up to 3 to 4 years. It usually ends with a degree. Post-graduate continues with the student for deeper specialisation and higher degrees.

These are the main stages of education. As you can see, there are a lot of stages to education, and each one has its own specific purpose. When you’re looking at your child’s education, you should look at all of the stages that he/she goes through.
